Whether the Village of Mineola would get its own police department was of the most controversial issues to come to the village in some time and, judging from the number of residents who voted, it was a passionate one as well. Last week, residents defeated the referendum by a wide margin, clearly making a statement that a village police department was not wanted.

Megan Marr Stars for Nighthawks
The Newbury college women's volleyball team posted a team-record 23 wins this season, improving on its 2005 ledger by five games. The Nighthawks continue to surpass old team records for wins in a single season. The Nighthawks continue to sign the history book as they are the first women's volleyball team at Newbury College to win the Division III Independent Women's Volleyball Championship with a perfect 5-0 record, in all five of those matches the Nighthawks did not lose a single game making them perfect in the tournament.
