On Monday, Dec. 11, The Clock Tower Party is sponsoring a community meeting at the Bryant Library, to inform the residents of the Village of Roslyn where it is heading with all the large apartment buildings under construction and another one in the planning phases. Paul G. Fetscher will be the guest speaker. He will discuss integrating small town development successfully. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.
B.I.T.I. LCC's proposal for an additional 80 units would be located south of the viaduct right behind the historic downtown buildings. According to Clock Tower Party members, his proposal is controversial and is generating much criticism from village residents.
Party members note that Roslyn Village created a Master Plan to guide future growth and to safeguard the integrity and value of Roslyn's historic and scenic resources. B.l.T.I.'s plan, they claim, is counterproductive to the village's master plan. Its proposal has been opposed by not only the Clock Tower Party, but also the Roslyn Chamber of Commerce, the Roslyn Landmark Society and The Coalition to Save Hempstead Harbor.
Resident concerns are that the proposed multi-family housing development will foreclose the possibility of water dependent uses for residents of the Village. Residents are also concerned that will encroach upon the business district, impact school enrollment, and overwhelm the historic downtown buildings.
Clock Tower Party members encourage residents to attend the meeting and express their concerns.
