Construction continues to progress for an early 2007 opening of Sterling Glen of Roslyn, the new independent senior living residence in downtown Roslyn.

Upon completion, the three-story building, situated on 11 acres overlooking Hempstead Harbor, will feature 158 luxury rental apartments, offering a variety of spacious one- and two-bedroom layouts.

"We have exceeded our anticipated lease up and have been well-received in the marketplace," said Kevin Hunter, Sterling Glen's chief operating officer. "This unique residence is a terrific alternative for area residents who want to remain near friends and family without the responsibilities of homeownership."

Construction continues to steadily progress at the residence, as sheetrocking walls have been put up throughout the building, and private apartments are now being painted and finishes installed. The exterior is taking shape, also. Trim work has been progressing, and siding will soon cover the building. Site work and the installation of sidewalks and curbing have begun.

The community offers waterfront views and is within walking distance of Roslyn's downtown historic district and its many shops and restaurants. The project's developer and manager, Sterling Glen Senior Living, is creating a public boardwalk promenade and events area along the harbor, which joins the community to the village.

Designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, Sterling Glen of Roslyn resembles an historic Northeast inn. The building, Sterling Glen officials said, was planned to meet guidelines established by Roslyn's Historic District Board and incorporates traditional design and historic styling reminiscent of the late 1700s.

In addition, up to 40 percent of the apartments will include balconies with waterfront views, and many of the common areas will offer panoramic views of a five-acre waterfront park and promenade, which is open to the public. The harbor walk includes three ponds, professionally landscaped gardens and a promenade offering views of Hempstead Harbor.

The residence will also offer a full complement of resort-like hospitality services and amenities. This includes weekly housekeeping, flat linen service, gourmet meal options and covered parking facilities. An extensive roster of activities are planned to include cultural, recreational and educational offerings on site and at nearby cultural centers such as the Nassau County Museum of Art, North Fork Bank Music Fair and Tilles Center for the Performing Arts at C.W. Post College.

"Sterling Glen is thrilled to be one of the driving forces behind the revitalization of Hempstead Harbor and the surrounding area," said Michael Brown, executive director of Sterling Glen of Roslyn.

Located at 1390 Old Northern Boulevard in Roslyn, the community's Information Center is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Saturday. The center offers apartment-rental information as well as renderings and floor plans. For more information, please call the Sterling Glen of Roslyn Information Center at 626-6900 or visit SterlingGlen.com.

"Our presence here provides the opportunity for us to meet with future residents and their families and gain valuable feedback regarding their expectations for services, amenities and enrichment programming," added Brown.

In other news, Sterling Glen will hold a "Get to Know Us" informational open house on Saturday, Nov. 11.

The seminar will be held every hour on the hour between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Sterling Glen of Roslyn's community relations directors, Charlene Loglisci, LMSW, and Mimi Howard will be giving presentations at the residence's Information Center located at 1390 Old Northern Blvd. Refreshments will be served.

Guests will have the opportunity to preview design layouts, floor plans and renderings.

Please R.S.V.P. to Charlene Loglisci or Mimi Howard at 626-6900 for additional information.
