The Wheatley Athletic Department has announced that volleyball will be introduced into its athletic program. The East Williston Board of Education has given approval to create this first-ever program, which will be started immediately. Wheatley will field a middle school girls volleyball team during the upcoming Winter I sports season.

The team's first practice will be on Nov. 6 and the competitive season will start on Friday, Dec. 1, with a match against Westbury. Funding for the creation of this volleyball team became available only after this fall's JV field hockey program was cancelled due to a low turnout.

The program will be open to girls in seventh and eighth grades and the team will practice at North Side Elementary School and play its home matches in the Willets Road gymnasium. Todd Donaghy will be named as the team's coach.

Middle School girls who are interested in joining this new athletic experience will be invited to attend a team organizational meeting, which will be held on Thursday, Oct. 26. Announcements regarding this meeting will be made at both Willets Road and Wheatley schools.
