At the Tuesday, Sept. 19, board of trustees meeting, Barbara Frislid celebrated her 20th anniversary as a Village of Roslyn employee.

Mayor John Durkin and the board of trustees presented Barbara with a proclamation and a bouquet of flowers for her outstanding service and dedication to the village. She has and continues to service the village as deputy court clerk and deputy registrar. She also answers the telephones and Mayor Durkin has called Barbara the "voice of the village."

Over the years Barbara has made numerous friends, many of whom attended the presentation, including several former village employees, retired sixth precinct police officer Tom Kern, her co-workers and her husband Thoral.

Barbara and Thoral have lived in the Roslyn area all their lives and were Roslyn High School sweethearts. On Sept. 9 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Thoral, as a member of the Carpenters Union, helped build many of the Long Island communities. Now retired, he works part time for the Roslyn Water District.

As the mayor read Barbara's proclamation aloud, he stated: "Barbara, who knows 'everything' and 'everybody,' shall, from this day forward, be known to all as the 'unofficial mayor of the Village of Roslyn.'" And in closing, Mayor John Durkin, Deputy Mayor Nolan Myerson, Trustee Marshall Bernstein (unable to attend), Trustee Marta Genovese, and Trustee Craig Westergard publicly acknowledged her contributions by declaring Sept. 15 as "Barbara Frislid Day."
