Things are changing along Northern Boulevard as you travel west from the Roslyn viaduct toward Searingtown Road. At the monthly meeting of the Village of Flower Hill Board of Trustees held on Oct. 5, a preliminary site plan was presented which previewed a proposed full-service, upscale Greek seafood restaurant to be located on the site of the old Saturn car dealership. Since some variances will be needed before a formal presentation can be made, the discussion was informal yet informative.
If approved, the restaurant would have 238 seats and 69 parking spaces. There would be landscaping along the west side and the front of the lot. Further review will take place in the weeks ahead by both the zoning board and the board of trustees.
During the remainder of the brief meeting several other matters were discussed: A resolution was accepted which continues Flower Hill's participation in an Inter-Municipal Agreement to maintain the Hempstead Harbor Protection Committee; the need for a local law to prohibit fireworks displays within the boundaries of the village; recommendations for code changes from the code enforcement officer, Robert Rockelein; and lastly, the huge success of the recently held "Block Party."
This final item brought cheers and smiles from all those assembled in the village hall. Even though the Sunday, Sept. 17 rain date was needed, over 600 Flower Hill residents and guests attended the festival. The feedback has been extremely positive; and trustee Norman Glavas, chairman of the committee that put it all together, said that everyone was extremely pleased with this 75th anniversary event. The next board meeting will be held on Monday, Nov. 6.
