Very few accomplishments of a son or daughter bring mixed emotions. One which does is passing the driving test and getting a license.
One is proud of one's child for reaching that stage in life and pleased that he/she can now assume some of the family responsibilities for transportation.
At the same time pride is mixed with the knowledge that driving a car involves serious risks, knowledge which produces a knot in every parent's stomach.
Shortly before I wrote this we were sorry to learn that two Herricks graduates of the class of 2006 were involved in an accident on Shelter Rock Road.
One was killed and the other rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them, their families and friends.
