The 2006 Royals had a very good regular season, finishing third in the American League with a 5-3-1 record. In the AL playoffs, they beat the Orioles 11-6, the second-place Red Sox 13-12 in a wild, come-from-behind victory, and the first-place A's 7-5 in the AL championship game. In the championship game against the Dodgers, the Royals built a 6-0 lead and held on for a 6-5 win.
The Royals' success in the playoffs was the result of a total team effort, as it had been all year. The Royals received great pitching from Bilal Ahmed, Ben Rashbaum, Brandon Temperino and John Temperino. There was clutch hitting from Ross Kaplan, Michael Lewisohn, Jake Silbowitz and Reed Weber. And there was stellar defense from Kyle Berman, Carlos Brown, Alex Cohen and Reid Goldsmith. Every player was a star on at least one occasion.
As the Royals look back on their championship season, along with their success on the field they will remember the friendships they made and the lessons about teamwork and good sportsmanship they learned.
