Work has begun on comprehensive roof replacement projects at schools all throughout the Roslyn School District.
According to Tom Mohrman, the Assistant Superintendent for Operations, the replacement projects will be complete by the time schools reopen next fall. The projects began as soon as graduation ceremonies came to an end, with workers on the job on Monday morning, June 26.
At its June meeting, the board of education gave final approval to firms working on roof replacement.
At Roslyn High School, a general construction contract was awarded to Empire Restoration Corp. of Dix Hills. The contract totals $267,000.
The contract at the Middle School totaled $168,536. A general construction contract was awarded to Marfi Contracting of Brooklyn, while Advanced Conservation Systems, Inc. of Lindenhurst received a plumbing contract.
Those two companies also received the contracts for roof replacement at East Hills Elementary School. Marfi Contracting was awarded a contract for $493,230.
The plumbing contract was awarded to Advanced Conservation for $62,424.
Advanced Conservation received the plumbing contract for work at Harbor Hill Elementary School, one that totals $18,615.
The general construction contract was awarded to Best Roofing of New Jersey, Inc., Wayne, NJ. That contract totals $271,500.
Naturally, the bulk of the news about the school district has been about the embezzlement scandal, defeats defeated, then approved, plus the comings and goings on the school board. Roof replacement, however, has been a pressing concern for parents and administrators alike and that worry will be alleviated when schools starts up again in September.
