The number of defendants who have yet to be sentenced in the embezzlement scandal continues to dwindle in numbers. And once again, a sentencing date for both Pamela Gluckin and Debra Rigano has been set.
Both Ms. Gluckin and Ms. Rigano are scheduled to be sentenced on Monday, July 17. In the past, sentencing days have been canceled, but the July date remains in place.
Both Gluckin and Rigano were also set to be sentenced on March 27.
Those dates were postponed and new ones set namely because the office of District Attorney Kathleen Rice is trying to gain more restitution from the defendants. In all, over $11 million was stolen from the district when the scandal was taking place.
The sentencing dates for Dr. Frank A. Tassone were canceled for those reasons and also because the former superintendent was afflicted with a heart condition. And indeed, Dr. Tassone's latest sentencing day, Monday, June 19, saw yet another cancellation, with new no date announced.
Tassone had pleaded guilty to grand larceny charges. It was expected that he would receive a prison sentence of 4 to 12 years. So far, Tassone has repaid the district $1.5 million, with the total amount expected to reach $2.2 million.
In addition, John J. McCormick, the son of Ms. Gluckin, was recently sentenced to five years probation and 100 hours of community service on similar grand larceny charges.
The sentencing for Ms. Gluckin and Ms. Rigano will take place at Judge Alan Honoroff's chambers, located in the West Wing on the first floor of the County Court Building, 262 Old Country Road, Mineola.
