While the Roslyn School District has both a new budget and a new superintendent for the 2006-07 year, the embezzlement scandal continues to make the news.

In late June, John J. McCormick of Center Moriches was sentenced to five years probation for his guilty plea on grand larceny charges and filing a false instrument. In addition, McCormick must serve 100 hours of community service.

McCormick is the son of Pamela Gluckin, the district's assistant superintendent, who also has been charged with grand larceny.

McCormick confessed to charging $83,000 on Roslyn School District credit cards. He also admitted to receiving another $104,000 in stolen funds from Ms. Gluckin.

So far, McCormick has repaid the entire $187,000 in embezzled funds. In handing down the sentence, Nassau County Judge Alan Honoroff, according to published reports, made it clear that some jail time would have been a proper punishment for the larceny charges. However, the judge, acceding to the wishes of the District Attorney's office, went through with the probation sentence.

Both Pamela Gluckin and Debra Rigano are scheduled to be sentenced on Monday, July 17, also at Judge Honoroff's chambers, located in the West Wing on the first floor of the County Court Building, 252 Old Country Road, Mineola. Both Ms. Gluckin and Ms. Rigano were set to be sentenced on March 27, but as with the sentencing dates for Dr. Frank A. Tassone, postponements moved those dates forward.
