As the rejection of the initial 2006-07 school budget illustrates, the fallout from the Roslyn School District embezzlement scandal continues to reverberate throughout the Roslyn area.

In the coming weeks, the major players in that scandal are, once again, scheduled to be sentenced.

Next Monday, June 26 has been set as the sentencing day for Dr. Frank A. Tassone.

Pamela Gluckin and Debra Rigano, two other key figures in the embezzlement scandal are scheduled to be sentenced on Monday, July 17.

There is, of course, no guarantee that any actual sentencing will take place or if the Nassau County District Attorney's office will continue to move the dates forward even deeper into the summer and fall.

Throughout all of 2006, the DA's office has announced sentencing dates for all defendants, only to see them postponed.

For instance, Tassone was originally set to be sentenced on Feb. 28, then on March 27. The latter date was also the sentencing day for both Ms. Gluckin and Ms. Rigano. Although those dates were cancelled, the June and July dates remain in place.

The earlier dates were postponed and new ones set namely because the offices of District Attorney Kathleen Rice are trying to gain more restitution from the defendants.

In all, over $11 million was stolen from the district when the scandal was taking place. Last fall, Tassone agreed to pay up to $2 million in embezzled funds, which then-District Attorney Denis Dillon determined was "virtually all the money Tassone stole." However, the new administration apparently feels there are more restitution dollars that can be salvaged.

The sentencing will take place at Judge Alan Honoroff's chambers, located in the West Wing on the first floor of the County Court Building, 252 Old Country Road, Mineola.

Prior to the Feb. 28 non-sentencing date, leaders of various Roslyn area civic associations wrote a letter to the Nassau County Probation Department, asking that Tassone "be given the strongest sentence possible under the law for the scandalous crimes he committed against the students, parents, and taxpayers of the Roslyn School District."

Time will tell if the conditions are right to even consider such a request.
