The Roslyn High School Youth Against Cancer Club, along with our Faculty Advisor, Ms. Musorofiti, held a walk-a-thon and silent auction on Sunday, April 30 to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Besides the sponsorships for walkers and runners and the silent auction, there were T-shirt sales and donations made from many members of the community.
I would like to thank the community for coming out and supporting the walk-a-thon. The outpouring of support from the Roslyn High School and our community made this event one of the single most successful high school events ever. What made it such a success was that there was no one big check to carry the day, rather so many people becoming involved and participating.
I would especially like to express my gratitude to all of the local stores and merchants who donated an incredible array of dinners, jewelry, clothes, tickets and gift certificates. They were instrumental in making the silent auction a huge success.
As of now, we have made over $31,000 and we are still receiving donations and sponsor money. I know that the money we have collected will help contribute to a cure being real. I was cured from the money raised to find a treatment for the type of cancer I had. Hopefully, other cancer patients will benefit from the money we have raised.
