Jack Kaley, New York Institute of Technology's (NYIT) head mens lacrosse coach, has been named College Coach of the Year by the Nassau County Sports Commission (NCSC). Kaley will be honored at the NCSC's 12th annual awards ceremony on Monday, May 1 at Château Briand in Carle Place.
In 2005, Kaley led NYIT's lacrosse team to a 14-13 overtime win over Limestone College to capture the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II title. This was the second national championship Kaley and the Bears earned in the last three seasons and the third overall.
"I am very honored to be selected for this prestigious award," said Kaley. "It is truly a credit to my coaching staff and the many fine athletes who helped us succeed."
The championship led to a busy off-season for Kaley. In addition to serving as the guest speaker at the U.S. Lacrosse National Convention in Philadelphia, PA, he and the Bears coaching staff made a presentation at the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association National Convention in Baltimore, Md. He also made appearances at two high school coaching clinics.
In addition, as head coach of the German National Lacrosse Team, Kaley made two trips to Germany to select his team for the World Lacrosse Championships being held in London, Ontario, Canada this summer.
