Last week, Ronald Smith became the first candidate to announce his candidacy for the Roslyn Board of Education. This week, another candidate is running for one of the three seats that will be contested this spring.

David Seinfeld

David Seinfeld made his candidacy public at the most recent BOE meeting. He has also submitted the following statement of candidacy to The Roslyn News:

"My name is David Seinfeld. I am a member of the Roslyn community, living with my wife Laura and my sons Joey and Robby, in the village of East Hills. Joey is a junior at Roslyn High School and Robby is in the seventh grade at Roslyn Middle School. During the public comments portion at last Thursday's Meeting of the Roslyn School Board, I announced my intentions to run for the Board of Education.

"I have been an educator for the past 22 years, 14 of the years as a school administrator, the last 10 as a high school principal," the statement continued. "I began my career as a teacher of mathematics in Queens County and worked my way up the ranks in the New York City public school system, becoming an assistant principal at the age of 30 and a principal at the age of 35. For the last six years I have been a high school principal on Long Island, having spent the past three years at Calhoun High School in Merrick and the three years previous to that as the principal of North Shore High School in Glen Head. My career has afforded me a tremendous number of opportunities to work with children. As a teacher, I took on a litany of extra and co-curricular activities, ranging from Varsity Baseball Coach, to Fashion Show Advisor, to Math Team Coach, to Senior Class Advisor, to the Coordinator of Student Activities. As a school administrator I have worked closely with students, parents, teachers, central office administrators and members of Boards of Education to develop comprehensive, child-centered and responsible academic programs. As a principal, I have had to make tough decisions and design creative initiatives to ensure a financially responsible and progressive educational program. My experience as principal on Long Island has challenged me to do more for my students within sound financial parameters. I believe I can bring responsible and resourceful ideas to our school community.

"I have spent almost all of my 'leisure' time working with children on the athletic fields and courts of Roslyn," the statement added. "I am a member of the Executive Board of the Roslyn Little League and have coached baseball, basketball, and soccer during my family's 14 years of residence in Roslyn. I believe that the children, who have been members of the teams I have coached, have learned about fair play, teamwork, and dedication, while having fun and understanding the proper place athletics has in our society and community.

"If elected, I believe my good will, sound mind, love for children, and professional expertise will enable me to serve the Roslyn educational community well," Seinfeld's statement concluded. "I believe my professional experience combined with my ability to work cooperatively with others will make me a valued member of the school board. I look forward to running an open and communicative campaign. I am genuinely excited to have the opportunity to serve our community in this capacity."
