The winter ice skating season will officially open on Saturday, Dec. 4 when Santa and Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi host Santa's Skating Spectacular at Christopher Morley Park's outdoor ice skating rink.
Joining Santa on the ice will be the Morley Little Ice Stars, a talented group of young ice skaters. Santa will be available for photos, so parents are encouraged to bring their cameras. Santa and Mr. Suozzi will also preside over the traditional Christmas tree lighting.
During the two-hour session (1:15 to 3:15 p. m.) refreshments will be served courtesy of the Shelter Rock District - Theodore Roosevelt Council of Boy Scouts.
Children bringing an unwrapped toy to the event will receive a coupon good for free admission to a future skating session. The toys will be given to children assisted by the Nassau County Social Services Department.
Admission to the Morley Ice Rink for Nassau County Leisure Passport holders is $5.50 for adults, $3.50 for children and $3 for seniors, persons with disabilities, veterans and volunteers. Patrons without Nassau County Leisure Passports will be charged $12 for adults and $8 for children. Skate rental is $4 per session.
The rink is open for public skating seven days a week, with sessions from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 1:15 to 3:15 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Evening sessions are scheduled for Thursdays and Sundays from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.
