"The Boroughs vs. The Burbs" is the name of this year's Metro Girls High School Hoops Classic, the action-packed contest when the Long Island All-Stars face off against the New York City All-Stars at SUNY Old Westbury on Saturday, Nov. 6, in a basketball exhibition that will benefit both younger and older people on Long Island and in New York City.
Net proceeds from the exhibition game to be televised on Cablevision's Metro TV channel, will benefit the Long Island Alzheimer's Foundation (LIAF), which provides educational and social services to individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, and their families.
The Metro Classic, which will highlight the top girls' basketball talent from both regions in a competition that promises excitement for all, chose the November date to coincide with National Alzheimer's Disease month.
The event will pit the city players, known for their freewheeling style of play, against the suburbs more regimented suburban style.
The game will start at 7 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center at SUNY Old Westbury, Route 107, Old Westbury.
Tickets are $6 in advance and $8 after Oct. 30 and at the door. Tickets can be purchased in advance using a credit card online at: www.alzheimersfoundation.org/tickets.htm or by calling 623-1025.
