On Wednesday, Oct. 27 the Roslyn Landmark Society's guest speaker will be Morris Hylton III. Hylton has earned his bachelor's degree in architecture and art history from the University of Kentucky and a master's from Columbia University in historic preservation.
In his slide and lecture presentation, Modernism in Danger, Hylton, through a series of case studies, will explore the threats and the approaches employed to physically conserve the heritage of the Miles Van Der Rohe's Tugendhat Villa in the Czech Republic and Richard Neutra's VDL Research House II and Frank Loyd Wright's Ennis Brown House, both in California.
Less than a century after their design and construction, modernist masterpieces throughout the world are being routinely demolished, disfigured, and abandoned. Over the past decade, a nonprofit organization, the World Monuments Fund, has taken up the cause of great works of modern 20th century art and architecture in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
The meeting will be held at the George Washington Manor, 6 p.m. cash bar, 7 p.m. dinner, 8 p.m. lecture. Dinner reservations required.
Please call the Roslyn Landmark Society's office at 625-4363. The lecture is free and open to the public.
