Winners of their fourth trophy at Shelter Rock's "A" Doubles Tournament were Judson Ain (Roslyn) and Todd Pines (Manhattan). They edged Ira Friedman (Merrick) and Jamie Zucker (Oceanside) in a closely fought 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 match. In the semi-finals, they defeated Bobby Saltz (Roslyn) and Fred Blumenfeld (Manhasset Hills) by 6-3, 6-4.

The tournament was enlivened by Friedman and Zucker, new members from the South Shore who almost ran through the event. In a quarter-final thriller, they defeated the #2 seed Dr. Zed Horowitz (Roslyn) and Dr. Mike Litvak (Manhasset) by 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (14-12). They ran neck and neck in the 26-point tiebreaker, trading many match points. Their semi-final win was over Steve Goldstein (Bayside) and Ken Kaplan (Merrick) in another close 3-setter.
