Celebrating a spectacular spring season of indoor tennis, Sportime at Roslyn hosted its Eighth Annual Women's League Tennis Luncheon to honor Spring 2004 award winners and to thank all our dynamic members for their etiquette and sportsmanship.

On a Wednesday in June, League Director Karen Marlib Palevsky coordinated a tantalizing tennis buffet, inviting hundreds of league members to delight in a day of "The Sportime Zone" and doubles tennis on all nine Har-Tru clay courts.

Between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m, Major Leaguers mingled during doubles action with members from all 17 leagues and nine top pros.

"The Sportime Zone" is fun, fast-paced games played on multiple courts for both singles and doubles enthusiasts. Although weekly sessions are competitive in nature and participants enjoy an inspiring workout, standings are not kept or recorded. This new program is designed to improve skills, strategy and fitness. Sportime plans to add The Zone to its fall schedule of services.

Sportime management, staff pros, and the Roslyn Pro Shop generously donated tennis gear, free racquet stringing, free court time and hours of fabulous tennis lessons as Prizes for our league members.

"Thanks to our avid tennis player friends from community businesses," states Marlib Palevsky, "incredible gifts were offered to our league ladies from Manhasset's Paul Anthony Aesthetics, Roslyn's Buongusto and Massage Works, the Wheatley Bakeshop, Jill Scherer, Poco Loco, Salon Pop, Pink, La Mirage and Salon Opus of Williston Park, The View, Sorrel, Red Hots Spa and Escazu also donated amazing prizes.

League player and Sportime member Rebecca Keen of Port Washington surprised the ladies with a unique and quite delicious "tennis ball cake" which she baked as a theme dessert. One of 40+ raffle prizes, Rebecca donated a gift certificate (won by lucky Bonnie Davies of Port Washington) to bake a personalized cake designed to feed 20 people. Cameras were flashing, colleagues were clapping, racquets were swinging and all had a fun day.

During the month of May, on the last day of each League, 46 trophies are awarded to major league ladies in recognition of their outstanding tennis achievements. League Champions, finalists and, in the Friday Round Robin Doubles, third and fourth place players share the spotlight in Sportime's Circle of Champions.

"Hundreds of Sportime members join our singles and doubles leagues to meet new players, socialize with friends and ultimately enjoy days and evenings of fun and fitness.

This Roslyn club welcomes tennis lovers from the neighboring communities of Port Washington, Manhasset, New Hyde Park, Great Neck and many other Long Island towns and areas throughout New York City.
