The Sid Jacobson JCC Jammers, a fourth grade team playing in the fifth grade division of the Super League, improved its record to 8-6 this past Sunday in their second to last regular season game of this winter season.

Playing in front of a large home crowd at The JCC, the Jammers took an early lead against the Mid-Island Y club, and coasted to a 37-32 victory. The Jammers, 5-2 in their last 7 games, are coached by David Rothman and Jeff Gould.

Mid-Island kept it relatively close in the first half and were behind 18-9 at the half. The Jammers began the third quarter with their fierce 1-3-1 full court press, which immediately produced four consecutive turnovers - each one leading to a bucket.

That lead eventually swelled to 22 at which time Mid-Island launched their comeback, but it was too little, too late. Four late game foul shots by Michael Lefcort (four points) and a breakaway layup off a steal by Ben Rothman (13) sealed the win.

The Jammers, led by Lucas Schulman's (six points) outstanding work inside, attacked Mid-Island's 2-1-2 zone all game long with penetrating drives and precise interior passing.

Ethan Back and Jason Clark each contributed four points and Michael Shenfeld and Michael Kobrick (2) did their usual fine job patrolling the passing lanes and leading the fastbreak offense.

Keith Gould, Eli Rousso (2) and Andrew Wolfe (2) controlled the paint and stifled any penetration by Mid-Island, forcing them to spend the day launching long jump shots. Danny Gould and Kenny Rothman each made an appearance as well.

The Jammers expect to begin the playoffs next week and also plan to play a spring AAU Schedule.
