On Saturday, September 13 (rain date September 14) The Coalition to Save Hempstead Harbor will hold its Row & Paddle at Tappen Beach, Glenwood Landing.
This event is intended to make participants more familiar with Hempstead Harbor while helping to raise funds to support the Coalition's environmental activities.
This year there is fun for the whole family. The event will take place at the Tappen Beach picnic area, near the playground and fishing pier. Beginning at 9 a.m., you can learn about the marine life of Hempstead Harbor by participating in a fish survey, led by local scientist John Waldman.
At 11 a.m., registration and check-in for the Row & Paddle will begin. Kayakers, canoeists, and rowers will launch at 12:30 p.m. and paddle either a 2-mile course or a 4-mile course.
Also at 12:30 p.m., the Volleyball Tournament will begin, (players must preregister for this event by September 5). By 1:30 p.m., Live Music provided by the band, Hyjinx, will begin. Participants will receive T-shirts and refreshments, and prizes will be awarded. For registration, sponsor sheet and kayak rental information, please call the Coalition's office at 516-759-3832.
