(The following is a letter written to Roslyn Estates Mayor Susan Ben-Moshe and published here at the author's request.)
We are writing to you so that, hopefully, you can assist in some way, to help dispel the ugly rumors and stories that are circulating regarding the sale of our home. We have lived happily in Roslyn Estates at 5 The Pines for almost 20 years. There came a time in our lives when we decided to sell our house and relocate.
We listed our house with a local reputable realtor who brought us a prospective buyer, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Nagler. Over a period of six months, the Naglers professed an interest in our house claiming they wanted a ranch-style home for themselves. Finally, and with much difficulty, a sales price was arrived at and a contract was signed by us, as sellers, and Stewart Nagler as buyer. Both sides were represented by able and experienced counsel. At no time from the date of contract to the date of closing were we, or our counsel, aware that anyone other than the Naglers would be living there.
Subsequent to our closing, our former neighbors called us to say that our house had been transferred to a charity to be used for other than normal residential purposes, and accusing us of "selling out the neighborhood" for our own personal gain. We were shocked and surprised to hear this and stated we were completely unaware of the motives of the Naglers.
Roslyn Estates is a private, quiet, prime residential area which will remain such in spite of what happened. There is nothing that we did in the 20 years we resided there, nor would we ever do anything to cause turmoil in the neighborhood, or in any way upset our friends and neighbors.
Once again, we did not participate in, or did we have any knowledge of the deception by the buyers. We hope this letter, setting forth the facts and our feelings of what occurred, will put to rest all the speculation and ill feeling that has been generated towards us. Anything you can do in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
