The New York State legislature has changed the date of school budget votes from Tuesday, May 20, to Tuesday, June 3. All school districts in New York are now required to hold their budget votes on June 3. The district's trustee election and the Bryant Library's budget vote will also be changed to June 3.
The annual budget hearing, mandated by law, originally planned for May 8 has been rescheduled for Thursday, May 20, at 8 p.m. in the Roslyn High School commons. The community is encouraged to attend the May 20 hearing. An "Opportunity for Guests" to ask questions and provide input will be featured at the hearing.
Voting will take place on June 3 in the Roslyn High School gymnasium from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. These items will be on the ballot:
* The Roslyn School District's expenditure budget for the 2003-04 school year of $75,503,051.
* A referendum on extending modifications to the mileage eligibility limits for school bus transportation for one more year. The policy was revised several years ago to provide busing for all students K-8 and reduce mileage to 1/2 mile for students in grades 9-12 for the duration of the LIE construction. Reimbursement from New York State will enable the district to continue this modified policy at no additional cost to taxpayers, subject to voter approval.
* The Bryant Library's proposed operating budget for 2003-04 is $3,683,825. Details of the budget can be obtained by calling the library at 621-2240.
* Election of three trustees to serve on the Roslyn Board of Education, for three-year terms. Names which will appear on the ballot are incumbents Michael Barkan, Maryann Combs and Pat Schissel.
Copies of the Roslyn School District budget are available at all Roslyn school buildings, the central administration building and the Bryant Library. For information call the Business Office at 625-6307.
Applications for absentee ballots may be obtained by calling the District Clerk, Phyllis Barash, at 625-6303 and on line at www.roslynschools.org/code/absentee.htm.
