I received the informational card for the East Williston School District in regard to the upcoming school board election. I was surprised to see that current board members Susan Bergtraum and Richard Horowitz did not announce their intention to seek re-election. We should thank them for the many hours they have devoted over the years to their duties as school board members.

Now we must seek candidates who are willing to devote the necessary time it takes to properly function as a board member. They must be devoted to the needs of all the children of our district - not merely using their influence for their own children. They should believe there is always room for growth in the educational process and be able to suggest new ideas as well as be open to new ideas. They must consider the needs and the financial implications of their decisions as it affects the entire community - educationally and economically.

Hopefully, candidates with the energy and proper motives will come forward and be elected.
