Christian Robledo, a junior at The Wheatley School, has established himself as the finest swimmer to have ever represented Wheatley. Christian earned his third consecutive trip to the New York State Swimming Championship Meet with two first place finishes in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events at the State Qualifying Meet. The Qualifying Meet was held at the Nassau County Aquatics Center on Feb. 24. In that meet, Christian established a Nassau County record in the 100 free with a time of 45.72 seconds and was victorious in the 200 yard freestyle event as well.

At the State Meet, which was held in Buffalo on March 1, Christian successfully defended his New York State Championship title in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:41.14. Last year, Christian won this event in a time of 1:41.84. Christian added a second New York State title to his impressive resume by sweeping the competition in the 100-yard freestyle event. His winning time was a half second slower than his Nassau County record. In light of his impressive performance and since he was the only double champion at the meet, he was the unanimous choice to receive the Outstanding Swimmer Award.

Christian trains with and swims for the Long Island Aquatic Club, and his training regimen includes two-a-day practices. During the recently completed winter sports season, Christian and a classmate competed in the Nassau County boys swimming program as independents.
