Although the temperatures outside are freezing and it seems that the snow on the ground will never melt, the Roslyn Hilltop Educational Foundation Race Committee has begun to prepare for the third annual 5K Run/Walk. This year's race scheduled for April 6 is being chaired by Jeff Levy, Karen Kolb is chairing Corporate Sponsorship and new this year Lisa Levine and Rhonda Sadur are chairing a Journal Committee. Karen reports that responses from corporate sponsorship have been very strong. Most of our past contributors are back and new sponsors have made substantial contributions. The addition of a Race Day Journal will allow individuals, schools, organizations and area businesses to make contributions and show support for race participants. The journal will also contain important information about the race and the foundation.

The format of Race Day Morning will remain the same as in previous years according to the chairmen. Day of race registration will begin at 8 a.m. The traditional Fun Run will begin at 9 a.m. The Fun Run is open to children between the ages of 2 and 10 years. No prior registration is needed for the Fun Run. It is free and everyone "runs" away with a prize. The official 5K Run/Walk will begin at 9:45 a.m. at Roslyn High School Round Hill Road entrance and continue down Roslyn Road through the historic Village of Roslyn, the Strathmore community and finish back to Roslyn High School. At the conclusion of the race, trophies for overall men and women and in age categories will be awarded along with raffle prizes and refreshments.

Early registration for the Race will begin March 1. Applications will be available at local stores and at all the Roslyn District Schools. Early registration guarantees a Race Day T-shirt. The cost of registration for adults is $17 in advance and $20 on the day of the race. Students and Roslyn Gold Card Members are $15 in advance and $18 on race day.

The Roslyn Hilltop Education Foundation was founded in 1995. Teachers, administrators, staff and clubs are all invited to submit grant requests for programs and equipment during a yearly grant application. The foundation to date has donated over $125,000 to the Roslyn Schools in the areas of science, communication, the arts and technology. With the continued generous support of the community and a successful Race the foundation hopes to continue building a better future for Roslyn students.
