Diane E. Weiss, of Manhattan and Hemlock Farms, PA, formerly of Roslyn Heights, died on Nov. 29, 2002. Loving daughter of the late Donald and Tillie Weiss. Dearest sister of Doreen and Douglas Weiss and the late Donald Weiss Jr. Cherished aunt of Michael Weiss and Great-aunt of Kyle and Hailey Weiss. Veronica Mary Byrne, of Albertson, died on Dec. 25, 2002. Mother of Elizabeth, Laura and Regina McCormack. Sister of Helen Lau. Former wife of Thomas McCormack. The Reverend Paul W.H. Yang, who served in the Diocese of Rockville Centre for nearly 40 years, died on Dec. 31, 2002 at his home after a long illness. He was 90 years old. Fr. Yang was a former pastor at St. Mary's in Roslyn.
Father Yang was born on Jan. 1, 1912 in Mukden, China where he attended St. Augustine Major seminary. He was ordained on May 30, 1948 for the Archdiocese of Mukden. He taught at a minor seminary and did missionary work in Formosa for 11 years before heading to the Pontifical University for the Propagation of Faith in Rome where he received his doctorate in Canon Law in 1963.
Father Yang's first assignment in the Diocese of Rockville Centre was from 1963 to 1967 at the Church of St. Mary in Roslyn. He spent part of the next year at Our Lady of Grace in West Babylon. In 1968, Father Yang was assigned to St. Martha's parish in Uniondale where he would serve for two years. He was incardinated into the Diocese of Rockville Centre in 1969.
Father Yang's next assignment at St. Ignatius Martyr in Long Beach spanned 12 years to his retirement in 1982. He continued to live in Long Beach and became the chaplain for the Long Beach Police Dept. in 1985.
The wake for Father Yang was held Jan. 2 at St. Ignatius the Martyr Church followed by a Funeral Mass. Bishop John C. Dunne presided and Rev. Luke Wei of St. Finbar Church in Brooklyn was the homilist. Burial was at Holy Rood Cemetery. His family predeceased him.
