Leslie Reich, a senior at the Wheatley School, was awarded the Suzanne Link Memorial Scholarship at the recent All-County Awards Banquet sponsored by the Nassau County Girls Soccer Coaches Association. This prestigious award, which is presented annually, is named in memory of a gifted scholar-athlete who was tragically killed by a motorist who was driving while under the influence of alcohol. Each year the Nassau County girls soccer coaches nominate student-athletes who, like Link, demonstrated exceptional talent both on the playing field and in the classroom.
Reich, who has been a four-year starter for the Lady Wildcats, was one of the team's captains. As the team's sweeper, she stabilized a solid defense, provided leadership and inspiration to her teammates on a daily basis and contributed to the team's league championship. Reich received All-County honors and was selected to play in the Exceptional Senior game. While pursuing a very challenging academic program, she has achieved an un-weighted grade point average of 3.90 and a combined SAT score of 1,400, which rank her near the top of an exceptional graduating class.
In addition to her exploits on the soccer field, Reich has been a three-year starter on the softball team and a two-year starter on the basketball team. During her sophomore and junior years, she was awarded All-Division honors in softball.
