On a sun-filled Sunday morning, Oct. 20, over 60 residents of East Hills and guests competed in the inaugural first annual East Hills Mayor's Cup softball tournament. The winning team scored a decided victory, 4-0, over their opponents in the championship game. In winning the cup the team had to play three games in one day. The iron-man like competition ended after nearly five hours of play. The mayor invited the three co-chairs, Peter Wagner, Stewart Faden and Lenny Pugatch and the winning teams to attend the November board meeting. At the meeting, the mayor and board will officially award the honors by hanging on a victory wall in village hall, a framed jersey signed by all the players along with a plaque with their names. The cup will be displayed at village hall.

The talented level of athleticism led to most of the games turning on one to two runs. According to co-chair Peter Wagner, "We had a beautiful day thanks to the weather, our mayor, the talented level of play, the strong competition, and thankfully, the evenly distributed teams." And co-chair Stewart Faden said he hopes that the enrollment for regular weekly games will swell even further. He invited all interested residents to simply show-up on Sundays at Harbor Hills School at 8:30 a.m. and play ball, providing it's 40 degrees or over. "It's never too early to begin training for next year's tournament" he said humorously.
