The Roslyn High School boys varsity soccer team won its second consecutive conference title last week when it defeated Glen Cove, 4-1 in a Class B matchup.
Last year, the Bulldogs were regular season champs in the B-V conference. After winning that title, they were promoted to Class B, a change that brought no letup in the Bulldogs' winning ways.
Winning the conference title gives the squad home field advantage in the upcoming conference playoffs.
The Bulldogs clinched the title not only by defeating Glen Cove, but also through Carle Place's 1-0 victory over rival Westbury. In the Glen Cove game, Roslyn trailed 1-0 at halftime, but after being inspired by a locker room speech from Coach Juan Mejia, the Bulldogs came out firing.
Eric Paulenoff tied the score with a goal just two minutes into the second half. Three minutes, Ross Lehrer scored to give the Bulldogs a lead they would never relinquish. Additional goals were scored by Jeff Swersky and Chris Murray. On defense, goalkeeper Mike Jensen recorded five saves and kept Glen Cove scoreless throughout the second half.
Now, it's on to the post-season for the Bulldogs, where they hope to avenge last year's playoff defeat.
