Dana Kroplick and Ashley Birnbaum were named as the valedictorians of Roslyn High School's class of 2002.

Dana Kroplick has distinguished herself in the academic arena as well as in the arts. Dana is a National Merit Finalist, a member of the National Honor Society, and the Music Honor Society. Last year she received the Wellesley English Book Award and was a columnist for The Hilltop Beacon. Spending two hours a week since ninth grade working on Model Congress, Dana was awarded the gavel, a distinguished honor, at the Great Neck Model Congress Tournament. She was also coordinator for the Forensics team. As a peer educator, Dana was a role model for younger children. She would visit middle school classrooms to talk to children about peer pressure and making wise decisions. The arts have been especially important for Dana, as she worked on the fall and spring plays at Roslyn High School as a member of the Royal Crown Players. Her passion and talent for theater and voice has won her many awards including being named a member of the All State Women's Choir. Dana will be attending Brown University in the fall.

Ashley Birnbaum has worked on The Hilltop Beacon for four years and this served as its co-editor-in-chief. She has also worked on the Harbor Hill Light, the school yearbook, is a member of Mock Trial, the Principal's Advisory Committee for multicultural concerns, the anti-bias task force, and is a member of the National Honor Society. Ashley has also won the Colgate Book Award and has conducted math research; receiving both a bronze and silver medal at the Long Island Math Fair. She has also participated in the athletic program, playing both varsity tennis and badminton. Ashley will be attending the University of Pennsylvania in the fall.
