The big parade that took place last Saturday in Roslyn, one that honored Roslyn Rescue's 150th anniversary, also involved some competition among the numerous fire departments that marched in the event. The day was the occasion for the annual Fifth Battalion Parade.

Both fire companies from Roslyn performed well in the event. Roslyn Highlands took first place for Best Appearance by a department with more than 50 members participating. Roslyn Rescue placed second.

First place for Best Appearance by departments with less than 50 members went to Syosset. Glenwood Landing took second, and Sea Cliff placed third. The Syosset Fire Department won the Best Overall Trophy.

The Syosset Juniors placed first in that category with Litmore Roslyn Highlands winning second and East Norwich coming in third.

The New York City Police Department marching band, marching for Glenwood, took first place in the Best Appearing Musical Unit category. There was a tie for second place between the Bay Shore Fire Department Band, marching for Oyster Bay Company #1, and the Blue Devils, marching for Syosset.
