The Roslyn High School girls softball team had an exciting season, but it all came to a disappointing end when it lost to Seaford 8-1 in the first round of the playoffs. Due to the graduation of five key players from last year's team, the team faced a year of rebuilding this past season. Despite the return of seven varsity players, the rest of the team was made up of young players seeking varsity experience. While the girls' record does not have much to show for itself, the team learned a lot aad was able to improve its skills in order to have a successful season next year.
The girls started out their playoff game poised and ready to play. Looking to upset the number five seed Seaford, 12 seeded Roslyn came out strong and only allowed one run in the bottom of the first inning. The girls then tied the score at one in the top of the third, when Erin Finestone stole home on a wild pitch. The game then got away from Roslyn after an injury to shortstop Erin Finestone, which caused a shift in the infield and a change in right.
Coach Andy Demakopoulous led his team to the playoffs for the second straight season in as many years as he's been the coach. The team was made up of seniors Lanaya Boehler, Rachel Fields, Chrissa Foukalas, Jaimie Glick, Stacie Glick and Cindy Lipper, along with juniors Whitney Davis, Emily Fried, Kimberly Friedman, Arielle Goldsmith, sophomores Dana Finklestein and Elana Jacobs and freshmen Erin Finestone and Stephanie Levy.
