The North Shore Storm kept its winning streak alive on Saturday, May 11 as it won a closely contested game and defeated the Valley Stream Hornets 2-1 at the Community Center in Glen Head. The win gives the Storm a record of six wins, one tie, no losses for 19 points and sole possession of first place in Division N4 of the Long Island Junior Soccer League.
The Hornets opened the scoring in the 19th minute of a closely contested game. The Storm came right back one minute later on a goal by midfielder Charles Vasiento. The first half ended with the teams tied 1-1.
Patrick Sakamoto and Kyle Henry gave the Storm a 2-1 lead in the third minute of the second half. The Storm put a lot of pressure on the Hornets' goal, but their keeper and defense kept the Storm off the score board.
The Storm defense of Wil Lieberman-Cribben, Frank Scaturro and Kevin Gaffney played solid defense, but keeper Gavin Esernio had the fans on their feet several times with outstanding saves from close range.
The Storm midfield of Brandon Losee, Michael Clausen, Charles Vasiento, Brian Brown, Patrick Sakamoto and Keith Lopez ran up and down the field all game, setting up the forwards with passes, helping on defense and breaking up Hornet scoring threats.
The Storm forwards, Kyle Henry, John Scuderi and Ken Zukas did a great job of looking for each other and making nice passes for good scoring changes.
