The 42nd Annual Roslyn Landmark Society House tour will be held on Saturday, June 1. That's the day the Roslyn Landmark Society will open eight privately-owned homes to the public. The tour will commence at 10 a.m. and the houses will remain open until 4 p.m.

This year nine buildings will be open for visitors, including three houses which have never previously been shown: The Schenck Tenant House, the John Mott House and the Westergard House. Each of the houses has been restored. Most are within walking distance. Walking in Historic Roslyn is a visual treat at any time. The tour will run through Gerry Park with its series of streams and ponds and past a lovely church, a 1730 Dutch-style Grist Mill and the Richardson Romanesque Ward Memorial Clock Tower.

Roslyn and its environs contain more than 100 pre-Civil War structures. These buildings date from 1690 to 1860 and range from early farmhouses and modest vernacular homes to Federal-style houses, early Queen Anne's and stately country seats. Prominent New York architects who designed fashionable homes for the local gentry include Fredrick Copley, Calvert Vaux, Samuel Adams Warner, Ogden Codman Jr. and Stanford White.

Tea will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m. The tour has been organized so everyone can relax and enjoy the day at his or her own pace. The entire walking tour will take from two to three hours to complete.

Advance sale tickets may be purchased for $15 at the Bryant Library, Paper Mill Road, 621-2240 or at the Roslyn Savings Bank, 1400 Old Northern Boulevard. The ticket price includes all nine houses as well as the Tea. Tickets will also be on sale at 9:30 a.m. (no earlier) on the day of the tour for $18 in front of the Roslyn Savings Bank. Rain or shine. Please call 625-4363 for further information.
