Clarence Steinberg, who lived in Roslyn Village for 93 years, have moved to California to be near his daughter. Clarence is a dear friend of ours, always a gentleman, a warm courteous dignified man who served as Village Attorney in the '60s and was instrumental in implementing many reforms needed at that time.
Clarence served in the US Army-Navy War department with the rank of captain during World War II. We met him later when he became Village Attorney. We loved to hear him tell stories of growing up in Roslyn Village. He has a vivid memory and a great sense of humor. He remembers the WPA Theater which took place in what is now the Bryant Library and which was developed by Christopher Morley. Clarence used to commute into the city with Christopher Morley.
Clarence is an important part of Roslyn and anyone who has any memories or material about him is asked to send it to Myrna Sloan, historian at the Bryant Library, to put in its archives of local history.
We all wish Clarence "Happy Living" in his new home in California.
