Ellen Margaret Krantz (nee Kauser), long-time resident of East Hills, passed away Dec. 25, 2001 at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, NJ. She had been a resident of the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff, NJ, since 1998. Mrs. Krantz was 87. She was married in 1939 and moved into her new home in Norgate, East Hills, with her husband Duke Krantz, a well-known aviator and pilot for the Daily News. She later moved to the carriage house of the Forrestal estate where she lived until 1995.
Mrs. Krantz spent many years as a nurse and radiology technician in Dr. Hawes office in Roslyn Heights. Prior to her nursing career, she had been the gift shop manager at B. Atlman & Co. in Manhasset. She served as ombusman to the nursing home patients in Nassau County. After she raised her family, Mrs. Krantz was a comforting and interested liaison for the patients who relied on her warmth and caring. She was known as a vital public servant who represented their rights as patients.
Mrs. Krantz also was a volunteer for 10 years at Old Westbury Gardens where she conducted tours and welcomed guests. She was known among her colleagues as an enthusiastic and tireless worker. She worked at the Gardens until her move in 1995 to The Fountains in Millbrook, NY, a retirement community.
She was predeceased by her sister Elsie Klepper of Seaford. She is survived by her son, Ron Krantz of Mahwah, NJ, and her daughter Linnea Connelly of Earlville, NY.
A memorial service will be held Feb. 9 at the Roslyn Heights Funeral Home.
