Nassau County residents, ages 3 and up, are invited to lace up their skates this winter and register for ice skating lessons at the outdoor Christopher Morley Park Ice Rink. Participants can reap the benefits of exercise, have fun and improve their skating skills, or learn a new skill.

Christopher Morley Park Ice Rink opens for the season on Friday, Dec. 7, weather permitting. Lessons will be held during public sessions on Tuesday, between 4 and 6 p.m. and Saturdays, between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The park is located on Searingtown Road in Roslyn.

The enrollment fee for eight half-hour lessons which includes rink admission is $90 per child (ages 3-17) and $115 per adult. There are skates of all sizes available for rent at a charge of $4 per session.

Since the number of participants in each level will be limited, registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis. On Friday, Nov. 9, at 5:30 p.m., registration is scheduled for the Tiny Tot and Beginner level classes. These groups consists of Tiny Tots ages 3 to 5 and any child over the age of 5 who has never received formal instructions. Children under the age of 5 who were previously enrolled in our program will re-register for Tiny Tot lessons and children over the age of 5 will enroll in the beginner classes.

On Friday, Nov. 16, at 5:30 p.m., registration is scheduled for children who are 6 years of age or older and beyond the beginning level. The registrants in the advanced classes will be placed in classes based on certain criteria. You may register your Tiny Tot or Beginner skater on Nov. 16, as long as you are also registering a child for classes above the beginner level, and if space is still available.

If you are not able to attend the evening of Nov. 9 you may register your Tiny Tot or Beginner level skater at the Administration Office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning Nov. 10, assuming availability.

If you are not able to attend the evening of Nov. 16, you may register your advanced level skater at the Administration Office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Nov. 17, assuming availability.

Adult lessons are tentatively being scheduled for Tuesdays during the 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. public session and on Friday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The fee for eight half-hour lessons is $115. Anyone interested in adult lessons should contact 571-8114. Request to have your name, day desired, telephone number and skill level placed on the roster. You will be notified when classes are being formed. Please note a minimum of eight participants is necessary to begin any class.
