Officials with the Nassau County Fire Marshal Offices have given no causes behind the large fire that occurred Feb. 8 on Tower Place in downtown Roslyn. Joseph Whittaker, the fire marshal who conducted the investigation said the undetermined label on the fire would officially remain in place until and unless more research on the ruined building site is completed.

The fire, which took place early on the morning of Oct. 8, destroyed two longtime local establishments, Dreams East and Massage Works, plus a private construction firm that had its offices in the building on 17 Tower Place. The blaze was the second disastrous fire to occur in the row of buildings along Main Street in Roslyn. In July 2000, an equally large fire destroyed several businesses at 19-21 Main Street. Fire marshals did find a cause for that blaze, determining that it was due to an electrical wire shortage in the top floors of the building, which itself dates back to the early 19th century.

Currently, proprietors of both Dreams East and Massage Works are attempting to recover from the fire by finding relocation sites for their businesses.
