The recent tragedy at the World Trade Center in Washington DC and in Pennsylvania has caused untold loss of life and seriously impaired an already economy. Our prayers go out to the families who lost loved ones and friends in the attack on America.

Prior to the disastrous events of Sept. 11, we had planned a Building Fund Benefit Luncheon honoring Joseph Mancino, chairman of the board of the Roslyn Savings Bank, for his unselfish support and leadership in so many worthy community projects on Long Island. We had also planned to honor Frank Castagna, president and CEO of Castinga Realty, and our own dynamic May Newburger, supervisor of the Town of North Hempstead, for their contributions and commitment in improving the quality of life in so many of our communities.

With so many families and friends around the metropolitan area, directly or indirectly affected by the World Trade Center tragedy, the Building Fund Committee though it appropriate to postpone the Oct. 30 luncheon until April of next year.

We want to thank you for your concern and interest in Salem, and trust that we will be able to meet and greet you at our April celebration.

Rev. Harding A. Dunlop

Pastor, Salem African Methodist Episcopal Church
