Diane's restaurant, located at 23 Main Street in Roslyn, will hold a fund raiser on Monday, Nov. 5 with all proceeds going to the families of Roslynites who perished in the World Trade Center disaster. The event is scheduled to last from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
John Durkin, mayor of Roslyn, is proprietor of Diane's. In a letter to village residents, Mayor Durkin said that once the disaster occurred, he had been "searching for a way to express my sympathy and support for the victims of that tragic event." And so, the mayor has announced that Diane's will be open for a fund-raising dinner.
The monies will go specifically to the families of Peter and Thomas Langone, the two brothers, who respectively, were members of the New York City fire and police departments. Funds will also be presented to the family of Michael Haub, a former member of the Roslyn Rescue Fire Company. The Langone brothers had also spent over two decades each as members of that volunteer fire company. Earlier this month, Roslyn Rescue officials announced the establishment of The Langone Brothers Education Fund to provide long-term educational assistance to the children of Tommy and Peter Langone.
Cost for the dinner will be $60. The mayor reiterated that all proceeds, with no exceptions, will go to the victim's families' fund. Mayor Durkin also described the evening as an informal event, with no speeches, "just neighbors getting together in a common cause."
Those interested in attending the Diane's fund raiser may call 621-2591 for reservations. In addition, residents may call Roslyn Rescue at 621-3899 for information about the educational fund.
