Your September 27 page one article, "Roslyn Comes Together for Thomas and Peter Langone Vigil," accurately noted that "it was as emotional an evening as Roslyn has seen in many years." I attended with the intention of representing Roslyn Estates, in my capacity as president of the Roslyn Estates Civic Association. Once I saw the size of the crowd, however, I realized there was no need for me to represent anybody else. Many of my neighbors came to offer their own prayer for a miracle and to honor the selfless, courageous actions of the Langone brothers. I was quite content to be there as one Roslyn resident to add my personal, heartfelt "thank you." The truth of John Donne's "No man is an island" was plain for all to feel.
The "Vigil" article and related "East Hills Relief Efforts" article belie a letter to the editor, in the same edition. The writer attempts to disparage Roslyn residents and merchants for what she apparently views as a lack of patriotism. The evidence that she offers, to indict our entire community, are the alleged comments of two merchants. I am disappointed that she chose to write such a letter, based on so little. Had she attended the candlelight vigil, perhaps she would have noticed the outpouring of appreciation. Had she driven through our developments, perhaps she would have noticed the many flag adorned homes and cars. Perhaps if she spent less time making leaps-of-logic generalizations, she would have more time to contemplate the meaning of what she must see and hear every day: United We Stand!
