Our state and nation join together to pray for the victims of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. I am deeply saddened by the senseless loss of life, and grieve for the thousands of families whose lives have been tragically changed by these horrific attacks on our people and our cities.
At the same time, I am heartened by the tremendous outpouring of support by the American people, and inspired by the heroism of all those involved in the rescue effort. The bravery of our firefighters, police officers, medical personnel and volunteers is indeed in sharp contrast to the hateful cowardice of those who committed these heinous acts.
All of us have been affected by this unthinkable tragedy and its aftermath. Despite overwhelming sorrow and seemingly insurmountable challenges, we cannot give up hope, and cannot give in to fear. Our attackers may have leveled our buildings, but they will not crush our spirits. We must continue to provide support and comfort not only for victims and their families, but for the countless rescuers who are risking their own lives in the relief effort.
For emergency telephone numbers, information on how to help victims' families or how to contribute to the rescue effort, click on the "Aftermath of Terrorism" link under Senate Update on my website, www.senatorbalboni.com. Let's focus our energies on helping our neighbors, and channel our frustrations toward rebuilding our future. We can be confident that our national leaders will do whatever is necessary to preserve and protect our continued freedom.
