In the Aug. 30 Letter to the Editor, Elyse and Harold Hecht painted a vivid picture of the prospect facing the Roslyn community in considering the future of the Bryant Library.
As we know, the library building does not answer present and future needs; aside from the inadequacy of the building, the lack of parking is a source of frustration. The two options for solving the problems inherent in the library now are to add to the present structure or to build a new building in another location. Of course, any alteration to the existing structure still does not solve the parking problem.
The Hechts have elucidated the issue and clearly set out ideas for community discussion. I applaud their effort to awaken Roslyn residents and East Hills residents in particular, to the possibility of using a small part of the East Hills Park District as a site for a new library. There does not seem to be any viable alternative site within the library district.
