Toni Wiener, a second-generation member of Temple Sinai and resident of Roslyn has been unanimously elected president of the temple by its board of trustees. At the same time, Shelley Lindauer was elected executive vice president and Carol Weinstock, Charles Berman and Amy Handwerker were elected vice presidents.
Other elected officers include Michael Shaffet as treasurer, Dr. Edward Wolff as secretary of the board of trustees, William Handwerker for a one-year term as president of Temple Sinai's Brotherhood and Amy Kula and Ira Malin as new trustees for a three-year term.
Mrs. Wiener is a 1973 graduate of C.W. Post College where she received a BS in elementary education. At Post she was president of the Beta Theta chapter of Sigma Delta Tau sorority. Following graduation, she worked for many years as an officer of the Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company in New York City. Today, she is a principal in her family's real estate business.
Mrs. Wiener is the daughter of Hyman and the late Hilda Schifrin, longtime residents of Roslyn and members of Temple Sinai. She and her husband Hank became members of the temple in 1984, and their two children, Elizabeth, now 20 and Andrew, now 18, attended temple Sinai's nursery and religious schools. Hank Wiener was recently elected vice president of the temple's Brotherhood.
In addition to her involvement in the temple, Mrs. Wiener is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence and chaired its recent gala fund raiser. For the past 10 years, Mrs. Wiener and her family have been associated with the new Leadership Division of North Shore Health Systems' annual celebrity golf tournament which benefits its Child Life Program.
