Beginning on August 6 the Town of North Hempstead will continue its very popular rowing course that started in June. Anyone interested in registering for either the youth program that includes 14 to 17 year-olds or adults of 18 years and beyond should contact the Department of Parks and Recreation at 327-3140 before August 1. The cost for the youth program will be $150 per participant for the week. The adult program is $200 per participant for the week.

"I am very pleased that we have received a terrific response to this program," said Town of North Hempstead Supervisor May Newburger. "We are always looking for new programs that will be interesting for our residents. Rowing is an exciting sport that offers residents a challenging experience while at the same time enjoying the beautiful summer weather at Bar Beach."

The program was initiated when the Manhasset Schools wanted to start a rowing team. The Manhasset PAL agreed to purchase the skulls on behalf of the school district. North Hempstead Department of Parks Commissioner Gerard Olsen worked with the school district and the PAL to provide storage for the rowing skulls at Bar Beach in exchange for allowing the town to use the skulls.
