Mary E. Mitchell was born in Owensboro, KY, on April 24, 1923. She was the only child of Winnie Jewel and Felix Lacey. Mary had no children but she was a nanny for many years to the Hobish family. She was a strong woman and she will not be forgotten for she was a friend to many and was always there when someone needed her. She was very special to Lavonne Bowers and helped her very much when her friend Anna Turner passed away. Mary Mitchell will always be that special someone. She closed her eyes for the last time on July 1, 2001 and now she is in a better place. Arrangements were made by the Roslyn Heights Funeral Home. Lewis Gerard Firth Jr. died on July 10, 2001, peacefully at home after a brief illness. Husband for 48 years of Harriette (nee Campbell). Father of Tish, Daphne and Larry. Grandfather of Jennifer, Christopher, Lindsay, Elizabeth and Lauren. Brother of Lindsay Catron and the late Daphne Scott. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on July 4, 1919 and attended Shadyside Academy, St. Paul's School, Concord, NH, before graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After serving in the Navy Special Services for Anti-Submarine Warfare, he settled in Roslyn Harbor where he worked as a consulting engineer in water distribution systems for the Bristol Company. He traveled around the world consulting on the development of water control systems from Borneo to Brazil. After moving to Brazil in 1975 on assignment from Montgomery Consulting, he lived in Pasadena, CA, before retiring to Cape Ann, MA. Arrangements were made by the Campbell Funeral Home, Beverly, MA. Memorial services will be held Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Roslyn. Donations can be made to The Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01939 or The World Wildlife Fund, 1250 24th St. NW, Washington, DC 20037. Helen F. Bonori, 96, died on July 14, 2001. She was a resident of Roslyn Pines for 45 years, past president of the Women's Club of Garden City Country Club and a lifetime member of the Floral Park Women's Club. She is survived by her sister June Coletta and many nieces and nephews. The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Williston Park. Interment Nassau Knolls Cemetery.
