Carol Denberg of Roslyn was the recent recipient of the Terri Lynne Lokoff Child Care Foundation Teacher Recognition Award. The award comes with a $1,000 grant. Five hundred dollars of the grant will be used to implement an enhancement project that the teachers have designed for the children, one illustrating the educational, social and emotional benefits of the project. The rest of the grant is given as a stipend to acknowledge the dedication of child care teachers.
Ms. Denberg received the award for working on book projects with students at the Gan Shalom Cooperative Nursery School of the Reconstructionist Synagogue of the North Shore, located in Plandome. Ms. Denberg works with 4-year-olds, both during the school year and the summer program at Gan Shalom.
Ms. Denberg lives in Roslyn with her husband and three children. She has been an active participant in local community and school activities, serving as a board member to various committees. She has also been involved in synagogue functions such as Yom Hashoa and Mitzvah Day at Temple Beth Sholom, where she is a member.
Her previous teaching experiences include The International Playgroup in Manhattan, Temple Beth El of Great Neck, and the Sid Jacobson JCC in East Hills. Ms. Denberg has a B.A. degree from George Washington University and an M.A. from New York University.
The Terri Lynne Lokoff Foundation created its teacher recognition awards program to both underscore the importance of child care and to highlight the need for funding and improvement throughout the child care system.
