On Thursday, July 19, the Roslyn Film Society's 8-1/2 minute long video Microcosm will have its premiere as part of the Long Island International Film Exposition 2001, which will be held at the Malverne Theater and which is sponsored by the Long Island Film and TV Foundation.
Open Forum on Viaduct Renovation
A number of Roslyn-area residents showed up at Roslyn High School last Tuesday to inquire about the proposed renovation of the Viaduct Bridge in the village, but few of them had anything to say for the public record. Representatives from the New York State Department of Transportation held an open forum at the high school nearly all day on Tuesday, June 26 for the purpose of both answering questions from local residents and to further make their case for the extensive $85 million bridge renovation project.
Badminton Squad Named Scholar/Athlete Team
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) has selected the Roslyn High School Girls Badminton team to receive a Scholar/Athlete Team award for the Spring 2001 sports season. The team, coached by Lynn Jacobson, was first in Nassau County in badminton. The NYSPHSAA believes that the athletic participation of students enhances their academic performances. To support this belief, the Scholar/Athlete Team Award Program was created in 1991. Varsity teams who earn a 90 percent or higher average during their sport season qualify for the NYSPHSAA award. The Pupil Benefits Plan, Inc. became the co-sponsor of the program in 1995. The Roslyn High school girls badminton team had a computed team average of 94.5 percent.
